Solving Storage Challenges for Heavy Irregular Materials: 27,000-Location Automated Warehouse Put into Operation in Southwest Electrical Industrial Ba

Recently, the Phase I and Phase II automated warehouse projects built by Nanjing Better Metal Products Co., Ltd. for a leading power transmission and distribution manufacturer in Southwest China have been fully completed and put into operation. The project has a total of 27,000 storage locations with a maximum load capacity of 1.5 tons per location, making it a benchmark integrated intelligent warehousing project for heavy-duty and irregular materials in Southwest China.
The core challenge of the project lies in the storage of heavy cable reels, which feature irregular shapes, high rolling tendency and offset center of gravity and cannot be adapted by traditional racks and general automated warehouse equipment. Better’s technical team developed customized V-shaped load pallets and self-centering intelligent forks, combined with the self-developed WMS (Warehouse Management System). With dynamic location allocation, anti-collision intelligent algorithms and high-precision positioning scheduling, the unmanned access of heavy reel materials has been fully realized.
In terms of warehousing efficiency, the effective space utilization rate of the warehouse has increased from 42% of the traditional flat warehouse to 91%, a growth of 2.16 times. Thanks to full-process automation, the number of on-site permanent operators has been reduced from 15 to 6, and the inventory accuracy rate remains at 99.97%, which greatly cuts labor management errors and labor costs.
The successful operation of this project marks that Nanjing Better has reached an industry-leading technical level in the integration of non-standard intelligent warehousing for heavy-duty and irregular materials. The company will promote this mature solution to segmented fields such as steel coils, chemical drums and heavy automotive parts, and continuously expand the scope of non-standard intelligent warehousing solutions.
